With only the first and last name of myself and my paternal grandmother, who passed in the 1940s, Diane built out my family tree. Diane traced my ancestry back to my 4th great-grandparent. Her continued research revealed that one of my great-grandparents was a part of the Trail of Tears.
I've been attempting to research my Ancestry for years but I could never move further than my grandparents. For many African Americans, especially those that are the descendants of slavery, Ancestry research is difficult due to the historical impact of slavery and its lasting effects on record-keeping and family identity. Finding documentation of Black people prior to the 1870 census can be challenging and time consuming. Diane has the knowledge, tools, patience, and love for genealogy that allow her to overcome these challenges. Diane was able to locate census records, newspaper clippings/articles, Dawes Rolls records, marriage records, and death records dating back to the mid-1800s. "I first heard Diane Henriks give a presentation virtually at our Austin Genealogical Society on 2/25/25. She impressed me with her experience, knowledge, and enthusiasm.
I began researching my family tree in 1986, but had been trying to solve one mystery. Who were the parents of one G-Grandmother? I asked Ms. Henriks for an initial consultation and she explained the options to engage her for the research project.
