Every genealogist eventually encounters a stubborn brick wall—missing parents, conflicting evidence, or disappearing records. This session introduces a disciplined investigative protocol for re-evaluating stalled cases. Learn how to audit prior research, apply collateral and cluster research techniques, analyze community networks, and determine when DNA evidence can support documentary findings to develop stronger, defensible conclusions. Register for UGA’s 55th Summit of Excellence, and come hear “Cold Case: An Investigative Protocal for Genealogical Brick Walls”, on Day 2, Friday! The Summit of Excellence, is the Utah Genealogical Association’s annual virtual conference that provides premier genealogical education. Distinguished genealogical speakers from all over, including from Brigham Young University Instructors and more, will be giving presentations on a wide range of topics given over a three-day event, from September 10-12, 2026. Thursday, September 10, will include getting started courses for beginners. On Friday, September 11 and Saturday, September 12 topics will include DNA, methodology, records, ethnic, writing, military, tools, and technology courses for all. The best thing about a virtual conference is that you can still attend sessions that you’ve missed and will have access to the digital recordings of the sessions for several months after!
